Eight Hours paint on wall, 2009.
Eight Hours is based on stained glass window in Vooruit in Gent (Belgium), depicting men and women pushing a wheel forward. Simon Gush discovered the window while filming for Underfoot (Vooruit). The image stuck with him. He later realised that the imagery is the same as the logo for C.O.S.A.T.U. (Confederation of Trade Unions, South Africa). Although he is yet to discover the original source of the image, he did find it cropping up in other union logos. For the wall drawing, I simplified the image and removed the wheel and flag from the composition.
