Join us on April 30th for the Grand Finale of ‘There Will Be Ligh’t, the new project by Studio Julian Hetzel about the precarious economy of hope. This event is the closure of a week-long durational performance at West Den Haag, from April 22nd - 30th (premiere).

‘There Will Be Light’ explores the relations between hope, life and labour. In a time in which we find it more and more difficult to imagine an alternative future, Studio Julian Hetzel takes the equivalent of one basic income of their own cultural funding and gives it to one person. In other words: someone receives €15.000. For one year, seven days per week, 24h per day, the ‘chosen one’ starts performing an improvisation called life.

This is an invitation to escape the world of needs and to enter a world of desire and possibilities. Who will be ‘the chosen one’?

During the Grand Finale, this will be decided. After launching the call for participation, we conducted interviews with local applicants on a beach specially designed for ‘There Will Be Light’ at West Den Haag. Everybody had a chance, everybody could apply. A committee of alternative experts consisting of homeless people reviewed the applicants. All interviews were open to the public. Through these interviews seven finalists are selected for the Grand Finale.

‘There Will Be Light’ is a co-production of West Den Haag, SPRING Performing Arts Festival, Grand Theatre Groningen. With the support of: Fonds Podiumkunsten, City of Utrecht, Fonds, 21, VriendenLoterij Fonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.
