On International Women’s Day, Stichting Mesopotamië is collaborating with West Den Haag to present a powerful selection of short films that reflect on the self-determination of women and children around the world. Family dynamics, feelings of confinement, physical powerlessness, the search for space, surviving teenage years, processing childhood trauma, and fighting oppression — through the themes of these short films, it becomes clear what remains a daily reality for many women today, emphasizing the vital importance of emancipation. This will be explored further in a lecture by Fatma Aktaş of Stichting Avrasya, who will speak about racism and women in cinema. The afternoon will also be enriched with several workshops on creating poetry and collages, and various poems will be recited. Contributions will include work by Olaya El Idrissi Al Bouzidi, Khadija Bouachrine, Shahrzad Khoshnam, Hanin Amin, and Wiam Alsewadi.
