Julien Previeux
Glissment sculpture, galvanised metal, diameter: 3,5m, 2004.
Metal crash barriers are a standard urban item in use all over the world since the 1950s: omnipresent, they represent a vast protective network for road users while at the same time calling attention to potential hazard spots. Here the rail bites its own tail, forming a perfect circle that functions both as an enclosure and a racetrack. Judiciously placed in the exhibition space, this minimalist sculpture gets in the visitor’s way, forcing him to change his path.
